Oakland’s Hull Island property is under significant development. Land that once resembled an island in West Oakland was filled in for better access long ago. Now, steps are being made to make way for a new 118-home community. Re-zoning for 73 acres along Hull Island Drive is currently 50% complete. The current zoning provided for agricultural, county agricultural and single-family residential.
Under the new proposal, zoning would be for a planned-unit development. The town commission already approved the first ordinance reading on July 12th. They will soon have a meeting to make a final vote. As part of any re-zoning, certain pockets of wetland areas will be preserved.
